WHAT IS LADY SCOUTS?
Lady Scouts came from a discussion amongst friends about an idea: a philanthropic social group for ladies in our area to get together, have fun, learn new things, and help the community while we do it!
WHO CAN JOIN?
Lady Scouts is for any woman who is interested in having fun, learning new things, and helping our communities! We have members from both Pennsylvania and Ohio.
ARE THERE DUES TO JOIN?
Yes, there is a $25 annual due to join Lady Scouts. Dues are used to pay for patches, deposits for events/spaces, and supplies for our events. Remaining dues at the end of the year will help us plan and pay for our year-end anniversary party. Once you fill out the Membership Application and submit your dues via Venmo, you will be invited to join the private Members-Only Lady Scouts Facebook Page.
PATCHES?! HOW DO I EARN THEM?
Yes, you read that right! Patches. Through joining and participating in Lady Scouts, you will have the opportunity to earn patches. These will be displayed on camel-colored cardigans as you collect them. You can earn patches by attending our events, fundraising for your favorite local charity, and learning skills. You can do this solo by volunteering and with other Lady Scouts at our events. We will continuously share potential events and ways to earn patches. Very similar to our little sister organization (we have no affiliation with Girl Scouts!)— just more grown, elevated, and fun.
You can earn patches through learning skills, volunteering, and doing charity work on your own, with a smaller group of Lady Scouts, or with the whole organization. We encourage all of the above! You can stick to doing events with the whole group or branch off and do your own thing. The Lady Scouts Executive Board will share events that you can volunteer with or participate in to get patches. Each official Lady Scout event will come with it’s own patch. Remember the goal of Lady Scouts is to learn a new skill, have fun, and do good for our communities. If you’re doing all three, you can almost certainly earn a patch for it! Please keep track of any community service or charity work you perform outside of LS events so we can recognize you for it by completing this form each time you perform a volunteer activity.
WHAT'S WITH THE CAMEL CARDIGANS?
Think grown, elevated, and fun. Besides, who doesn’t love a good cardigan?! We love the idea of looking uniform for events without trying too hard. The camel cardigans help us coordinate and be united. Once you're a member, you're free to purchase any cardigan you'd like, keeping in mind that we want everyone to have similar a camel color. We have a list of ones we like on the Membership Application that we will update as we find more that we like! Don’t worry, you won’t have to wear it when it’s 90 degrees outside. Okay... maybe for just one group pic! Other colors we love: sage green, dusty rose pink, and navy. Extra points if you wear these colors to our events (kidding– there's no point system, but we would love it if you wear one of our colors or your cardigan)! We also occasionally do fundraisers with Lady Scouts t-shirts or other fun merch so you can rep our group wherever you go!
TELL ME MORE ABOUT EVENTS
Our events are so unique and lots of fun! Each event is planned around a few things: learning something new, being social, having a good time, and helping the community while we do it. This is where our tagline “Be social. Do good.” comes from. It’s easy to just plan something fun to do, but we believe it's really important to improve ourselves through learning a new skill while improving our community at the same time. For example, one event was a cooking class where we learned how to make three unique appetizers, had some cocktails & girl time, while collecting money and non-perishables for the Food Bank of Mercer County. We collected monetary donations and over 250lbs. of non-perishable items. We also hosted a a Self-Defense Workshop benefiting the Children's Rescue Initiative that rescues children from human trafficking across the globe and a Succulent Planter Workshop that benefited Strayhaven Animal Shelter.
We also host quarterly Member Meetings where our Executive Board will review what we've accomplished for the year, present ideas, and ask for feedback on future events and fundraisers. These meetings are a great way to meet other members along with learning about what our organization has been up to!
WHAT IS THE COMMITMENT LEVEL?
We know life is busy, but we also think it's important to prioritize time for ourselves to help others and do things we enjoy. Lady Scouts events are not mandatory. You can choose your own commitment level, but we would encourage you to attend as many as you can. We believe that you get out of Lady Scouts what you put into it!
HOW DO I REGISTER FOR EVENTS?
All events will be first come, first served— some events will have limited availability. We will post on our Facebook page or in the Members-Only group when event registration goes live (be sure to follow us!). Registration is submitted online and fees are paid to our Lady Scouts Venmo account. Your spot will not be reserved without the registration fee being paid to provide equal opportunity to all members. Fees/registrations are non-refundable. If you sign up for an event and later find that you cannot make it, you are welcome to find another Lady Scout to take your place and reimburse you! Please let us know if this is the case.
HOW DO DONATIONS WORK?
Great question! Donations come from us as Lady Scout members along with the community. Each event features a different charity that we donate to. Donations are included in registration fees or we collect donations separately. We also hold separate fundraisers or clothing/food drives throughout the year that we open to the community. We believe it's important to be willing to help our community where there is a need!
In 2022 we hosted the Lady Scouts Food Fight food drive for the the Mercer County Food Bank where, along with local businesses partners, we collected over 7,000lbs of donations for local families in need. In 2023, we collected $3,000 to help send children in need to summer camp sponsored by Family Life Church — just to list a couple!
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE CHARITIES?
We, as members, choose. On the membership application form, we ask what your favorite local charities are. We use that information to guide which charity to pick for each event. Remember how we said we want to help the local community? That is our goal— to pour back into our communities. We want to support local businesses and local charities to the best of our ability. Many of us grew up, work in, are small business owners, or teach in our local communities– we want to give back locally as much as possible.
HOW DO YOU DECIDE ON EVENTS?
The events that Lady Scouts host also come in part from the members and the Membership Application. The Executive Board brainstorms ideas that we think a lot of ladies would like to do, but we want to provide experiences based on what you want to do and learn as well. Feel free to submit an idea via our Event Request Form (coming soon!). We host approximately 4-5 events per year. We try our best to get to each recommendation but please understand events take some time and planning!
WHAT'S YOUR NONPROFIT STATUS?
Lady Scouts was granted 509(a)2 Public Charity status in 2023— meaning that we are a public charity that receives revenues from a combination of contributions and membership fees. This status falls under the commonly known 501(c)3 classification.
Be social. Do Good. It's our motto and our goal for Lady Scouts. We hope you join us!🥂
